Syracuse has secured its second commitment for the Class of 2026.
A cornerback/athlete from Damien High School in La Verne, California, pledged to Syracuse following a visit this past weekend.
He was present for Syracuse football’s victory over UConn at the JMA Dome and also attended the team’s win against California in Berkeley on November 16.
“The biggest reason I decided to choose Cuse is because the program is on the rise,” Gates told 247 Sports. “Coach Fran has done so much to the program in just one year and with him being the DB coach, I know he can develop me into the best player possible.”
Gates, who runs the 100 meters in 10.7 seconds, received interest from schools such as Cal, Utah, San Diego State, and UCLA, but Syracuse was the only program to offer him a scholarship this early in his recruitment.
During his junior season, Gates recorded 30 tackles, eight passes defensed, and one fumble recovery.
D’Antae Sheffey, a running back from Harrisburg (PA) High School, is the other verbal commitment for Syracuse’s Class of 2026.
