The Red Sox announced several roster changes ahead of their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Fenway Park.
On Friday, Boston revealed in a press release that they have optioned reliever Greg Weissert to Triple-A Worcester and called up left-hander Joely Rodríguez from the WooSox. Additionally, James Paxton has been moved to the 60-day injured list, likely ending his season.
Weissert, who pitched a scoreless 2/3 of an inning on Wednesday against the Houston Astros, had a 4.10 ERA over 48 1/3 innings this season.
Rodríguez, who was initially on the Opening Day roster before being designated for assignment in April, has posted a 1.88 ERA in 14 1/3 innings at Triple-A Worcester. He has limited opponents to a .157 batting average and recorded 13 strikeouts.
The Red Sox acquired Paxton in a trade before the MLB trade deadline. During his brief stint with Boston, he made three starts, posting a 4.09 ERA over 11 innings with nine strikeouts. Earlier this month, he was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a calf strain and will enter free agency after this season.
Boston kicks off a three-game series against the Diamondbacks on Friday, with the first pitch set for 7:10 p.m. ET. Full coverage will be available on NESN, starting with the pregame show at 5:30 p.m.
