As Brad Marchand enters his final season with the Boston Bruins, speculation about the future of the team’s longtime star and current captain is intensifying. Before the season began, Marchand suggested that he might consider leaving the franchise. At the end of October, he refuted Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman’s claim that he had a three-year extension agreement, calling it “false.” On October 29, NHL insider Frank Seravalli offered his perspective on the situation, indicating that he believes there is only one likely outcome.
Seravalli believes there’s only one likely outcome that will keep Marchand and the Bruins together until he retires. Speaking on NHL Network Radio, he dismissed the idea that Marchand would leave as he nears unrestricted free agency, calling him “a heart and soul Bruin.” “I don’t see a scenario where he’s anywhere but Boston,” Seravalli stated. He praised Marchand’s growth over his 16-year career, noting how he evolved from a promising young player to the undisputed leader and captain of the Bruins this season. Seravalli also highlighted Marchand’s significant recovery efforts after undergoing three surgeries, which made his preseason preparation difficult. He compared Marchand’s situation to that of Steven Stamkos, who chose to stay with the Tampa Bay Lightning when he had the chance to explore free agency. Unlike Stamkos, who had shown loyalty to his team, Seravalli hinted that the Bruins might not extend the same loyalty to Marchand, raising questions about his future.
