The Chicago White Sox have reportedly bolstered their bullpen just hours before the MLB trade deadline, acquiring veteran right-handed reliever from the New York Mets.
While neither club had officially announced the trade as of Sunday night, multiple reports indicated that the deal had been agreed upon ahead of Monday’s 5 p.m. ET deadline.
According to MLB.com, the Mets will receive two pitching prospects in return: Double-A right-hander Gabe Davis and Triple-A right-hander Zach Franklin. The move gives New York a pair of arms for the future while Chicago adds an experienced reliever to strengthen its bullpen for the remainder of the season.
Brazobán, 36, has been one of the Mets’ most dependable relief pitchers this year. Across 49 appearances, he has compiled an impressive 2.56 ERA while striking out 49 batters and issuing 23 walks. His ability to pitch in high-leverage situations and generate swings and misses made him an attractive target as contending and rebuilding clubs looked to reshape their rosters before the deadline.
Now in his fifth Major League season, Brazobán has established himself as a reliable bullpen arm after previously spending time with the Miami Marlins before joining the Mets. His veteran presence and consistency should provide an immediate boost to a White Sox pitching staff looking for stability in the late innings.
For the Mets, the trade represents another move aimed at strengthening the organization’s pitching depth. Davis has spent the season at Double-A, while Franklin has been pitching at the Triple-A level, giving New York two arms that could contribute to the club’s long-term plans.
