JUST IN: Mets Hearts Got Broken By Beloved Veteran Star

The Kansas City Royals have certainly had their share of heartbreaks against the New York Mets.

In the 2015 World Series, the Royals easily defeated the Mets, winning the series 4-1 and taking home the Commissioner’s Trophy on the Mets’ home turf—a bitter pill for New York fans. Nearly ten years later, memories of such painful losses linger for Mets supporters.

This winter, the Royals might have the chance to cause more heartache for the Mets. Instead of competing against them on the field, Kansas City could swoop in to sign a current fan-favorite from the Mets.

Utility infielder José Iglesias, a key inspirational figure for the team, will be available after signing a one-year minor league deal with the Mets prior to the season. Jody Jones from FanSided highlighted Iglesias as a potential target for the Royals this offseason.

“Iglesias has ignited the New York Mets, helping lead them to the National League Championship Series,” Jones noted. “Now entering free agency for the first time at age 34, he would align perfectly with the Royals’ offensive strategy of putting the ball in play, which suits their spacious home park.”

After starting the season in the minors, Iglesias has become a vital presence for the Mets. His hit song “OMG,” which topped the Latin American pop charts and features a new remix with Pitbull, plays every time the Mets hit a home run at home.

But Iglesias is more than just a music star—he’s also a formidable hitter. He posted an impressive .337/.381/.448 batting line over 85 games this season for the Mets, which would have earned him the National League batting title had he met the at-bat requirements.

The Mets would be disheartened to see “Candelita” leave, but the Royals could provide him with more starting opportunities in 2025 than New York can offer. With top prospects Luisangel Acuña and Ronny Mauricio vying for playing time, the Mets’ infield is becoming crowded, while Kansas City has more openings.

Having a positive veteran like Iglesias, who can play multiple infield positions, would be invaluable for any playoff contender. If he can replicate his performance from this past season, the Royals would be delighted to have him on their roster.
