The Milwaukee Brewers have secured yet another player with a long-term contract extension.
In the past week, much of the attention surrounding the Brewers’ No. 5 prospect, Luis Lara, has centered on his absence from Triple-A action rather than his impressive performance at the plate. Despite enjoying a breakout season offensively, Lara has not appeared in a game for the past week, sparking considerable discussion.
Triple-A Nashville manager Rick Sweet only intensified the speculation when he revealed that Luis Lara is healthy and expected to be back in the lineup on Tuesday, while also hinting that “stuff will come out” regarding the reason for his recent absence.
Rumors quickly surfaced that Lara could be the next young Brewers player to receive a long-term extension, similar to shortstop Cooper Pratt. Those reports proved to be true, as ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported Tuesday that Lara has agreed to a seven-year, $31 million contract extension that also includes three club option years.

“Outfield prospect Luis Lara and the Milwaukee Brewers are in agreement on a seven-year, $31 million contract extension that includes three club options, sources tell ESPN. Lara, 21, has dominated Triple-A this season. Deal maxes out at $79 million,” Passan wrote.
