Giants confirm to Sign Four-Time All-Star Slugger to $175 Million Deal

The San Francisco Giants have lacked a true power hitter in their lineup since Barry Bonds. This winter, a number of strong power hitters are available through free agency. One potential target for the Giants is New York Mets’ first baseman, who could provide the long-awaited power boost that manager Bob Melvin’s team needs. He has been a key part of the Mets’ lineup since 2019, ranking third in the franchise’s history with 226 home runs. However, 2024 was a down year for him, as he posted his lowest career numbers with 34 home runs, 88 RBIs, and a .788 OPS. Still, even if Alonso doesn’t replicate his 2022-23 production, which saw him hit over 40 homers and drive in more than 100 RBIs in consecutive seasons, his power is something the Giants have been missing for years. The last time a San Francisco player hit 30 or more home runs in a season was Bonds in 2004. Could Buster Posey, the Giants’ president of baseball operations, persuade Alonso to leave New York and head to San Francisco? According to AMNY’s Joe Pantorno, this move could very well happen, based on his predictions for the top MLB free agents.

“The Giants have money to spend, and they have been involved with some of the big-name free agents in recent years. Perhaps this is the big fish they finally land,” he said.

Paterno predicts that Pete Alonso will sign a six-year, $175 million deal with the San Francisco Giants. However, this forecast comes with a caveat. Before addressing Alonso, Paterno also predicted that the Mets will sign outfielder Juan Soto and starting pitcher Corbin Burnes. If New York fails to land Soto, Paterno believes the chances of Alonso re-signing with the Mets would increase significantly.
