Leeds striker complete his permanent move from Leeds United to Hull City on Thursday after the two clubs reached an agreement on a deal worth £6.5 million ($8.8m; €7.6m).
The 24-year-old underwent the first stage of his medical on Wednesday and is due to complete the second part today before officially finalising the transfer.
Gelhardt enjoyed the most productive season of his career last term, finding the net 15 times and providing four assists in the Championship while on loan at Hull City. He first moved to the club in January 2025 for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign, before returning on another loan deal for the whole of the following season.
The forward has not featured for Leeds since October 2024 and was told he was no longer part of the club’s plans this summer, with his current contract set to run until June 2027.
Following Leeds’ friendly against Manchester United in Dublin on Wednesday evening, manager Daniel Farke addressed Gelhardt’s future when speaking to reporters, including The Athletic. Farke confirmed that the club had made its position clear, saying Gelhardt was not part of their plans for the upcoming season, although he remains a Leeds player and is highly regarded as a person.
“He played a really good season on Championship level last season and I’m delighted for him because he’s such a fantastic guy. Let’s see what the next day will bring, but it could be there is a solution for him that is good for all parties.”
Gelhardt joined Leeds United from Wigan Athletic in August 2020 and quickly impressed with his goalscoring form for the club’s under-21 side. He eventually made his senior league debut during the 2021-22 season, which turned out to be his most productive spell with Leeds.
That campaign saw him score twice in the Premier League and register two assists, playing a valuable role as Leeds battled to avoid relegation. However, his opportunities at Elland Road gradually diminished, with loan moves to Sunderland and Hull City in the Championship becoming a regular part of his development.
