The Boston Red Sox have placed baseman on the 10-day injured list due to inflammation in his left shoulder.
He exited Friday night’s 12-inning game against the Minnesota Twins during the top of the 11th inning, having gone 1 for 4 with a walk and three strikeouts.
Saturday’s matchup against the Twins was postponed due to rain and has been rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on Sunday.
Before the game was postponed, Red Sox manager Alex Cora mentioned that Rafael Devers tweaked his shoulder while working in the batting cage and attempted to play through the discomfort. He was set to undergo an MRI on both shoulders.
Devers, who will turn 28 on October 24, signed a 10-year, $313.5 million contract with the Red Sox in January 2023.
This season, he is batting .272 with 28 home runs and 83 RBIs over 138 games. The three-time All-Star also leads American League third basemen with 12 errors.
“He made some adjustments throughout and yesterday he was like, there wasn´t much there,” Cora said before Saturday´s game. “Today, actually, we talked about something I saw mechanically, and he was very honest about it. The bat speed, it wasn´t there. We can see it.”
