Just In: Texas Rangers Replace Injured Reliever Grant Anderson with Top Prospect

Before Friday’s game, the Texas Rangers recalled pitcher from Triple-A Round Rock and placed reliever Grant Anderson on the 15-day injured list with a right ankle contusion, the team announced.

White’s recall is partly to provide support behind Friday’s starter, Gerson Garabito.

At 25 years old, White, who is the Rangers’ No. 26 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, is joining the team for the fourth time this season, with his most recent stint starting on Sunday. He has made two relief appearances for the Rangers, allowing six earned runs in just one inning. His last appearance was on May 13.

For Round Rock, White has a record of 2-8 with a 5.55 ERA, tallying 82 strikeouts and 45 walks across 26 games, including 15 starts. He has recently been transitioning to a full-time relief role.

His most recent appearance for the Express was on Wednesday, where he allowed one hit and one earned run in one inning against Las Vegas, striking out two and walking one.

Anderson, who was hit by a comebacker on his right ankle in the ninth inning of Wednesday’s game against the New York Yankees, has been placed on the 15-day IL retroactively to Thursday. He will be eligible to return no earlier than September 20.

This season, Anderson has had an inconsistent run between the Rangers and Round Rock, making six separate trips to Texas. For the Rangers, he has a 0-1 record with one save and an 8.10 ERA in 23 relief appearances. For the Express, he is 3-0 with a 2.96 ERA in 23 relief outings.

This move keeps the Rangers at the 40-player roster limit, with five players on the 60-day IL: Evan Carter, Carson Coleman, Jacob deGrom, Jon Gray, and Cole Winn.

DeGrom is scheduled for a rehab appearance with Double-A Frisco on Saturday, which could be his final step before activation. Meanwhile, Max Scherzer, who is on the 15-day IL, is also set for a rehab start with the Express in Las Vegas on Saturday.
