BREAKING: Dallas Wings Abruptly Release Standard Forward Ahead of WNBA Season

The Dallas Wings have officially parted ways with Nigeria’s D’Tigress standout following the expiration of her training camp contract, as reported by BSNSports.com.ng.

Okonkwo joined the Wings during the preseason period, arriving with a strong résumé from her performances on the international stage. During training camp, she made a solid impression in exhibition games, demonstrating her versatility, athleticism, and ability to contribute on both ends of the court. However, despite her efforts, she was unable to secure a spot on the team’s final roster as they trimmed down their squad ahead of the new WNBA season.

In her limited opportunities, the Nigerian forward averaged eight points and 2.4 rebounds per game across two preseason appearances. While those numbers may appear modest, they reflected her efficiency and ability to make an impact in short bursts, especially considering the competitive nature of WNBA roster selections, where teams often have limited slots available.

Even though her stint with the Wings was brief, Okonkwo’s showing during camp reinforced her reputation as one of Nigeria’s premier female basketball talents. Her experience, skill set, and composure continue to set her apart, particularly in high-pressure environments.

Okonkwo has long been a key figure for Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress. She has contributed significantly to the team’s dominance in African competitions, playing a vital role in their success at tournaments such as the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, where Nigeria has established itself as a powerhouse in recent years.

With her departure from Dallas, Okonkwo is now expected to explore other professional opportunities, whether in Europe, Asia, or other competitive leagues, where she can secure more consistent playing time. This will be particularly important as she looks to maintain peak form ahead of future international assignments with D’Tigress, where she remains an integral part of the squad’s ambitions on both continental and global stages.
