A cornerback from Hebron Christian Academy in Dacula, Ga., has changed his commitment from Duke to NC State. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Kemp recently announced his decision to join the Wolfpack’s 2025 recruiting class. Kemp, who was initially a top recruit for NC State before committing to Duke in June, had been a key target for the Wolfpack. His strong relationship with NC State was largely due to the effective communication he received from cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell.
Kemp praised Coach Mitchell, stating, “He’s someone who would place me in the right position to advance to the next level. I trust him completely. He’s honest and a great guy. NC State is producing excellent defensive players, like Payton Wilson, who is an impressive player. They showed me some of his film, and it was outstanding. Their secondary is top-notch, with defensive backs who take initiative and have private meetings to continuously improve their game.”
Kemp added that Coach Mitchell’s influence and the team’s strong approach to player development reinforce his belief that choosing NC State would be a great decision.
As a junior, Kemp excelled offensively with 16 receptions for 514 yards (32.1 yards per catch) and seven touchdowns. On defense, he recorded 36 tackles (including one for loss), six pass breakups, three interceptions, and two fumble recoveries. He also made an impact on special teams with five punt returns for 160 yards and a touchdown.
Kemp recently received high praise from an anonymous scout in a report by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.
“Gerritt is a long kid who can run, has really good ball skills and can play either wide receiver or (defensive back),” one anonymous scout said.
