Astros confirm to trade for 2-time All-Star pitcher

Another veteran figure in the Houston Astros organization may be facing an uncertain future.

Chandler Rome of *The Athletic* reported on Wednesday that the Astros have had internal discussions about trading pitcher, their longtime setup man. Rome notes that Houston is currently around $10 million under the first luxury tax threshold, potentially signaling a desire to further distance themselves from the tax.

With Ryan Pressly, Astros Can Now Put Positive Spin on Bullpen - The New York Times

Pressly, who turns 36 next month, has been with the Astros since 2018. During his time in Houston, he has earned two All-Star selections, contributed to the team’s 2022 World Series championship, and was named to the All-MLB team in 2022. He also holds the MLB record for the most consecutive scoreless appearances (40).

However, Pressly has a full no-trade clause in his contract, which includes a vesting option for 2025. This means he would have to approve any potential trade. With the Astros, who missed the ALCS for the first time since 2016, going through significant changes, it’s possible that they could part ways with Pressly—a move that would be difficult to envision given his integral role in the bullpen.
