The Philadelphia Phillies have gained new energy under their recently appointed manager, and a few roster adjustments could play an important role in sustaining that momentum.
On Tuesday, reports surfaced that the Phillies signed Dylan Carlson shortly after his departure from the Chicago Cubs, a move aimed at preventing a possible lack of depth in center field.
“Desperate for outfield depth, the Phillies signed switch-hitting Dylan Carlson to a minor-league contract and sent him to Triple-A,” according to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Scott Lauber. “The Phillies are dangerously thin, especially in center field. With Johan Rojas serving an 80-game suspension for failing a drug test, the Triple-A outfield consists of Steward Berroa, Bryan De La Cruz, utility man Otto Kemp, and now, Carlson.”
But even as the new addition of Carlson brought some key depth for the Phillies, the team also reunited with a utility piece who has more than eight years of big-league experience.

Earlier this month, the Phillies designated Dylan Moore for assignment after he appeared in 13 big-league games with the club. Now it appears he has officially accepted his outright assignment and has been added to the Triple-A Lehigh Valley roster, where he could be a member of the team’s Triple-A outfield depth.
Moore has made major-league starts at left field, center field, right field, second base, shortstop, third base and first base throughout his career. In this season for the Phillies alone he appeared at first base, second base, left field, center field, designated hitter and even as a pitcher.
In 2024, arguably the best season of his career with the Seattle Mariners, he won a Gold Glove Award as a utility player. So, it would be fair to say that the Phillies’ reunion with Moore brings some additional depth at a number of positions.

“Moore is certainly capable of being a solid multi-positional guy,” Darragh McDonald wrote for MLB Trade Rumors. “From 2020 to 2024, he hit 43 home runs for the Mariners in 1,397 plate appearances. His batting average was usually low but he made up for that with strong walk rates and some pop. He slashed .206/.319/.383 for a 105 wRC+ in that span while stealing 93 bases and moving all around the diamond, playing everywhere except catcher.”
However, Moore struggled at the plate in his brief debut with the Phillies earlier this season, recording no hits with three walks, a steal and three runs in 12 total at-bats. Now that he’s back in the team’s system, he’ll be looking to show more on the offensive side if and when he receives another call up.
