The Dallas Cowboys are exploring a potential trade for a three-time All-Pro defensive player to address one of their major weaknesses early in the 2024 NFL season. They achieved a thrilling 20-17 victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night, with Dak Prescott throwing a game-winning touchdown to Jalen Tolbert in the final 20 seconds. Despite tossing two interceptions and losing a fumble, Prescott managed to throw for 352 yards, leading Dallas to a last-minute win. However, the Cowboys’ secondary has been struggling, prompting talks of a trade to strengthen their defense. Bleacher Report’s NFL scouting department suggests that Dallas should look into acquiring Budda Baker, a three-time All-Pro safety from the Arizona Cardinals.
“The Cowboys have had sub-par safety play so far this season, as both Donovan Wilson and Malik Hooker posted grades from Pro Football Focus below 60 through the first four weeks of the campaign,” the article stated. “The 28-year-old looms as a lucrative trade chip because A) he wanted a new contract last offseason before settling for a raise and B) he’s one of the most talented players at any position slated to reach the open market in 2025.”
In April 2023, Baker officially requested a trade due to frustrations with his current contract, seeking either a trade or a new deal that would make him the highest-paid safety in the league. While the Cardinals did grant him a salary increase for the 2023 season, his long-term future with the team remains unclear.
