The Green Bay Packers will be missing three key starters and a top backup for their game against the Los Angeles Rams today.
Starting wide receivers Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson will not play. Cornerback Jaire Alexander is also out, along with backup defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt, who leads the team with 3.0 sacks.
Doubs has been suspended for the game due to conduct detrimental to the team after he failed to show up for practice on Thursday and Friday, reportedly because he was unhappy with his role in the offense. His suspension was announced on Saturday.
“Unfortunately, we had to make the difficult decision to suspend Romeo for this week’s game,” said Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst. “His actions during the week negatively impacted the team, prompting this decision. While we are disappointed, we believe we can move forward positively.”
Watson suffered an ankle injury late in the first quarter against Minnesota in Week 4 and did not return. He did not practice this week and will miss his ninth game of the 2023 season.
Alexander, the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL, will sit out for the second consecutive game due to a groin injury. Since the 2021 season began, he has missed 26 games and has played in 30.
Wyatt also sustained an ankle injury against Minnesota when he was rolled up on. In addition to leading the team in sacks, he ranks first in tackles for loss (6.0) and quarterback hits (5.0).
Other inactives for Green Bay include offensive linemen Jordan Morgan and Travis Glover, as well as defensive lineman Brenton Cox Jr.
On a positive note, second-year cornerback Carrington Valentine is returning after missing the last two games with an ankle injury.
