Penn State running back Cam Wallace has been ruled out for the season due to a “long-term” injury, as confirmed by head coach James Franklin. Wallace sustained the injury during the game against Kent State and missed the recent matchup against Illinois. Before his injury, he was making an impact as the team’s No. 3 running back, rushing 18 times for 66 yards and a touchdown over three games.
In light of Wallace’s absence, the team will rely on true freshmen Quinton Martin Jr. and Corey Smith as they step into the backup running back roles behind Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen. Martin, who played against Kent State, had seven carries for 24 yards in his debut, while Smith is yet to see game action.
Franklin is optimistic about the return of linebacker Dom DeLuca, offensive guard Sal Wormley, and cornerback Jalen Kimber, all of whom missed the last game due to injuries. Wormley’s return is particularly significant for an offensive line that performed well against Illinois, rushing for 239 yards.
Wallace is among several players on the team dealing with long-term injuries, joining starting safety KJ Winston, starting tight end Andrew Rappleyea, and others who have yet to play this season.
