The Detroit Red Wings aim to break their playoff drought, and one proposed trade could help them land a star forward. Using PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool, a user suggested a deal that would bring Pavel Buchnevich from the St. Louis Blues to Detroit.
Red Wings acquire:
Pavel Buchnevich
Blues acquire:
Jonatan Berggren
2025 first-round pick
2025 second-round pick
2026 second-round pick
The proposed deal would be a significant move, with Detroit sending an NHL player, a first-round pick, and two second-round picks to acquire star forward Pavel Buchnevich. This trade would enhance Detroit’s scoring while allowing the Blues to get younger and gather assets for a potential rebuild.
Buchnevich is entering the final year of his four-year, $23.2 million contract, but he has already signed a six-year, $42 million extension that begins in the 2025-26 season. This means Detroit would effectively secure Buchnevich for seven seasons, which explains the high cost.
He could serve as a top-six forward for Detroit, boosting their offensive capabilities. Last season, Buchnevich recorded 27 goals and 36 assists for 63 points in 80 games. Over his NHL career, he has played 517 games, tallying 162 goals and 239 assists for a total of 401 points.
