On Monday, the Detroit Red Wings extended an eight-year, $64.6 million contract to forward Lucas Raymond, which equates to an average annual value of $8.075 million.
The 22-year-old Raymond, selected fourth overall in the 2020 NHL Draft, has emerged as one of Detroit’s top players.
During the 2023-24 season, his third in the NHL, Raymond led the team with a career-best 72 points, including 31 goals and 41 assists. He played all 82 games, setting personal records in blocked shots (27), hits (69), takeaways (48), and plus-minus (minus-12).
Over his 238-game career, Raymond has tallied 174 points, consisting of 71 goals and 103 assists for the Red Wings.
Raymond, along with young teammates like defenseman Moritz Seider, is working to end the Red Wings’ eight-year playoff absence. Last season, Detroit posted a 41-32-9 record, totaling 91 points, but missed the playoffs by a tiebreaker with Washington for the final wild-card spot.
