The St. Louis Cardinals have made another roster move within their farm system, parting ways with veteran outfielder  during the club’s series against the Atlanta Braves. The organization released the 30-year-old from Triple-A Memphis after spending the first half of the 2026 season with the Redbirds.
Madris joined the Cardinals on a minor league contract in February after electing free agency, hoping to work his way back to the major leagues. Although he never received a call-up to St. Louis, he provided valuable experience and offensive production for Memphis throughout the season.
Despite the release, Madris had been swinging the bat well in recent weeks. During the month of June, the left-handed hitter showcased impressive power, posting a .704 slugging percentage while emerging as one of Memphis’ more dangerous middle-of-the-order bats. He continued that strong stretch into early July, adding several home runs before the Cardinals ultimately decided to move in a different direction.
A ninth-round selection by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2017 MLB Draft, Madris has appeared in parts of three Major League seasons between 2022 and 2024. He made his MLB debut with the Pirates before later spending time with the Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers, appearing as both an outfielder and first baseman. Across his major league career, he has earned a reputation as a versatile depth option capable of filling multiple positions while providing left-handed power.
Although he was unable to crack the Cardinals’ major league roster this season, Madris played an important role for a Memphis club that has enjoyed one of the strongest campaigns in the International League. His veteran presence helped complement several of St. Louis’ top prospects as the Redbirds remained among the league’s top teams.
For the Cardinals, the move opens another roster spot in the Triple-A system as the organization continues to evaluate younger players during the second half of the season. With the trade deadline approaching and roster adjustments expected across the organization, the front office appears focused on creating opportunities for emerging prospects while maintaining flexibility.
As for Madris, his recent offensive surge could make him an attractive option for another organization seeking experienced outfield depth. Given his major league experience and productive stretch at Triple-A, he is expected to draw interest as he looks for another opportunity to return to the big leagues.
