Three-star defensive back officially announced his commitment to UConn Huskies football on X Friday evening, giving the Huskies another important addition to their growing 2027 recruiting class. The standout defender from The St. James Performance Academy becomes Connecticut’s second commitment in the class and adds size, athleticism, and versatility to the program’s future secondary.
Hicks’ recruitment steadily gained momentum over the past year as multiple programs across the country expressed interest in the Virginia native. In total, 18 schools were involved in his recruitment process, including notable programs such as Virginia Tech Hokies football, South Carolina Gamecocks football, Syracuse Orange football, Colorado State Rams football, West Virginia Mountaineers football, and Toledo Rockets football. His combination of length, physicality, and defensive instincts made him an attractive target for several coaching staffs looking to strengthen their defensive backfield in future recruiting cycles.

Connecticut officially entered the picture on March 10, 2026, when linebackers coach Mickey Jacobs extended Hicks an offer. From that point forward, the Huskies appeared to build strong momentum in his recruitment. Hicks had previously scheduled an official visit to UConn for June 5, but ultimately felt confident enough in the program and coaching staff to make his commitment public before taking the trip.
Heading into his senior season, Hicks continues to climb the recruiting rankings while developing into one of Virginia’s more promising defensive prospects. He is currently ranked No. 1,101 nationally, No. 113 among safeties, and No. 15 overall in the state of Virginia for the 2027 class. Prior to transferring to St. James Performance Academy and reclassifying into the 2027 recruiting cycle, Hicks played at Rock Creek Christian Academy, where he began establishing himself as a high-upside defensive talent.
At 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, Hicks possesses the size and physical tools that college coaches covet in modern defensive backs. His frame allows him to match up well against bigger receivers, while his athleticism and versatility give him the ability to contribute at multiple positions in the secondary. Evaluators view him as a physical defender who plays aggressively in coverage and can support against the run, making him a valuable long-term addition for the Huskies’ defense.
For UConn, landing Hicks represents another positive step in building the program’s future recruiting foundation. Securing an early commitment from a prospect with Power Four interest gives the Huskies momentum within the 2027 class and reinforces the staff’s ability to identify and recruit promising talent from competitive recruiting regions like Virginia.
