The Red Sox are anticipated to focus on acquiring top-tier starting pitchers this offseason.
However, they aren’t aiming too high, as they’re also expected to pursue middle-of-the-rotation arms, including one former fan favorite.
On Tuesday, Audacy’s Rob Bradford reported that Boston is among roughly a dozen teams showing interest in Texas Rangers pitcher, who pitched for the Red Sox from 2018 to 2022.
Eovaldi became a fan favorite for his memorable performances, especially in the 2018 World Series, where he saved the bullpen with a heroic effort in Game 3 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Although the Red Sox lost that game, they went on to win the championship, and Eovaldi also delivered a key start in the 2021 AL Wild Card Game against the New York Yankees.
Re-signing the 35-year-old could be a smart move for the Red Sox, particularly if they believe they have a chance to return to the postseason in 2025.
However, Boston will face competition, as the Atlanta Braves are reportedly among the teams also interested in signing him this offseason.
