Head coach Matt LaFleur announced that Romeo Doubs will be back for the Green Bay Packers’ upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals. The third-year wide receiver spoke to reporters for the first time since serving his one-game suspension.
While Doubs chose not to discuss the specifics of his suspension, he expressed gratitude for his return to the team.
“I had some things going on mentally,” said Doubs, via Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “I do not feel comfortable getting too deep into that. I had some things going on. I did my best communicating, and I’m just thankful that I’m here right now.”
It was reported that Doubs had skipped practice over frustration about his role within the Packers’ offense. However, Doubs denied this.
“I had to make sure that I got the family together again,” said Doubs, via The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman. “I’d say there was some things going on off the field, so as far as just the organization and just the staff, players, there’s nothing going on within that area, so I just wanna make myself clear there.”
Romeo Doubs responds to Christian Watson’s comments about suspension
Earlier this week, Christian Watson mentioned that there might be “a few bumps in the road” as the team works to regain its sense of togetherness after Doubs’ suspension. The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman referenced Watson’s candid comments and asked Doubs if he felt the need to rebuild his teammates’ trust.
“That’s a great question,” Doubs replied. “To be honest, I do not feel comfortable answering that… I’m thankful that I’m here now.” He took a moment to reflect before responding, indicating he preferred not to delve into the details. Doubs also noted that he addressed the team upon his return this week and “absolutely” wishes he had handled things differently.
It’s hoped that Doubs and the Packers can move past this situation. His first interview after the suspension was bound to be challenging, especially with tough questions about his decision to skip practice.
As Doubs prepares to return for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals, fans can expect him to resume his role as one of Jordan Love’s favorite targets.
