JUST IN: Red Sox’s Latest Comments Sound Like $32 Million Star Isn’t Returning

It looks like the Boston Red Sox are headed for an exciting offseason.

Despite a challenging 2024 season marred by injuries, Boston wrapped up with an 81-81 record. The starting rotation made significant progress, even without Lucas Giolito for the entire year and Garrett Whitlock for most of it.

While the offense showed promise at times, it was heavily left-handed and faltered in the latter part of the season. The bullpen faced challenges overall, though Kenley Jansen and Chris Martin provided some bright spots.

As winter approaches, Boston faces key decisions, particularly regarding Jansen and Martin, who are both expected to become free agents. Martin is more likely to return due to his lower cost, while Jansen, who was involved in trade rumors and left the team early, may be nearing the end of his time in Boston despite being a valuable acquisition.

Recently, Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow discussed the need to improve the bullpen on WEEI’s “Baseball Isn’t Boring” podcast. He emphasized the importance of addressing the predominantly left-handed lineup, adding depth to the pitching staff, and rebuilding the bullpen. Breslow’s comments suggest significant changes are on the horizon, making it unlikely that Jansen will feature in the team’s future plans.
