Four-star talented player, the No. 114 overall prospect in the 2025 class, has committed to Notre Dame. The 6-foot-8, 180-pound forward from Indianapolis chose Notre Dame over offers from Wake Forest, Northwestern, Iowa, and Virginia Tech. Koehler is the first commitment for Notre Dame’s 2025 recruiting class.
“It came down to several factors, but my relationship with coach Shrewsberry and the rest of the staff was the most important,” He said. “They took the time to really get to know me, and I feel their support. Staying close to home was also significant, making it easier for my friends and family to come watch me play. Plus, I get to continue my Catholic faith at a great school like Notre Dame, which will be valuable once basketball is over.”
Head coach Micah Shrewsberry emphasized that Koehler would be a perfect fit for next year’s roster. Despite the Irish finishing with a 13-20 record, Koehler believes that with another year and added talent, the team can turn things around.
“I definitely think they’ll be good this year,” he said. “I’ve attended a couple of practices, and everyone has improved significantly. I’m really confident they’ll have a strong season, and I want to be a part of that.”
Regarding his own game, Koehler feels that the team’s fast pace and efficiency will suit him well.
“They play at a quick tempo,” he noted. “Last year, they tried to play fast but had a lot of inexperienced freshmen. This season, we’ll see how fast and hard they can play, and how efficient they can be. With those players improving, I believe I’ll fit well into their system. Their style is similar to what I play in high school, so I don’t think the transition will be difficult for me.”
Now that Koehler is committed, he knows what Notre Dame fans can expect from him.
“I bring versatility,” he said. “Once I add some strength in college, I’ll be able to guard any position.”
