BREAKING: Five-star super talent transfer to Virginia Cavaliers

Tony Bennett is on a hot streak with transfers as the Cavaliers secured another commitment of the day. On Monday night, San Diego State transfer announced his commitment to Virginia. The top star, who has two years of eligibility left, joined the Cavaliers shortly after they added Duke forward TJ Power to their roster.

He seems like a promising player with a solid track record from his time at San Diego State. Standing at 6’8″ and weighing 225 pounds, he brings good size and athleticism to the forward position. His stats from last season—6.2 points and 3.6 rebounds in just over 20 minutes per game—demonstrate that he can contribute effectively in multiple facets of the game.

His shooting stats are noteworthy as well. Shooting 32.2% from three-point range on 3.3 attempts per game suggests he’s a capable shooter who can stretch the floor, and his standout performances against Washington and Yale show he has the ability to step up in key moments.

His late entry into the transfer portal could be an opportunity for teams looking for a versatile forward with experience and a proven ability to perform in high-pressure situations. If he finds the right fit, Saunders could be a valuable addition to a new program.

Elijah Saunders commits to SDSU basketball - East Village Times

Elijah Saunders entered the transfer portal just before its deadline, and Virginia was quick to reach out as soon as his name became available. Saunders scheduled official visits to three schools: Washington, where he visited on Friday and Saturday, and Virginia, where he spent Sunday and Monday. The visit to Charlottesville evidently went well, leading Saunders to cancel his planned visit to Clemson and commit to UVA on Monday night.

After a slow start to the offseason without any transfer commitments, Tony Bennett and the Cavaliers have quickly turned things around. In just three days, UVA has added three transfers: Florida State guard Jalen Warley, who committed on Saturday, and Duke forward TJ Power and Saunders, both of whom committed on Monday. Warley will use his final year of eligibility next season, while Saunders and Power, with two and three years of eligibility left respectively, are set to build a strong foundation for the future.

With these recent additions, Virginia has now filled 12 of its 13 scholarship spots for the 2024-2025 season.
