Florida State has experienced another blow to their 2025 recruiting class as Javion Hilson, a four-star edge rusher from Cocoa, Florida, has decommitted from the Seminoles.
This development follows the recent departure of another key defensive recruit, four-star defensive tackle Myron Charles, who committed to Texas on Saturday.
In a post on X.com on Sunday, Hilson announced, “After careful consideration, I have decided to decommit from Florida State and reopen my recruitment. I will make my final decision in December. I appreciate all the support from FSU.”
Defensive ends coach John Papuchis, who was the primary recruiter for Florida State, had been working closely with the 6-foot-3.5, 235-pound Javion Hilson. Ranked as the No. 44 overall prospect and the No. 3 edge rusher nationally, and the No. 7 player in Florida, Hilson’s decommitment is a significant loss.
With Hilson’s departure, Alabama, Texas, Florida, and other programs are expected to intensify their pursuit of him.
For Florida State, this means revisiting their recruitment strategy. They currently have only one defensive line commitment, four-star defensive tackle Kevin Wynn. Given their recent challenges in recruiting defensive linemen, FSU will need to intensify their search for additional prospects in the coming months.
With just 11 commitments so far, FSU’s 2025 recruiting class now sits at No. 35 nationally.
