The Virginia Tech Hokies are hopeful that sixth-year tight end Nick Gallo will return this season. Nonetheless, head coach Brent Pry estimates there’s a 50-50 chance Gallo will be ready for the season opener.
Pry noted that while Gallo is putting in significant effort to prepare, his current readiness remains uncertain. “He might still make it,” Pry said. “He’s not fully recovered yet. We’re hopeful he can get there, but he hasn’t had much practice time this camp. So, he’s somewhat behind. I’d say there’s a 50-50 chance he’ll be on the field against Vanderbilt.”
Gallo has been recovering from a knee injury sustained during Fall Camp of the 2023 season, which led to season-ending surgery. Despite the injury, he continued as a team captain for the 2023 season. His return could greatly enhance the Hokies’ offense.
Nick Gallo joined Virginia Tech in the 2019 recruiting cycle as a three-star recruit and was ranked as the 37th tight end in that class. Over his career at Virginia Tech, he has accumulated 55 receptions for 469 yards and one touchdown in 46 games, though he hasn’t played since 2022. This will be his third season under head coach Brent Pry, who holds a 10-14 record so far but showed improvement in the latter part of the 2023 season.
Virginia Tech will start their season with an away game against Vanderbilt.
On a positive note, Brent Pry is thrilled to have wide receiver Ali Jennings returning for the 2024 season. Jennings’ 2023 season was cut short by injury, but Pry is enthusiastic about his return. “He’s got such a strong presence that he feels like a familiar part of the team,” Pry said. “We’re excited to see what he can do over a full season. He consistently performs better in games than in practice, which is rare. His experience and unique skill set will be a significant boost for us.”
