Latest: Red Sox Make Trio Of Roster Moves Before Diamondbacks Series

The Red Sox announced several roster changes ahead of their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Fenway Park.

On Friday, Boston revealed in a press release that they have optioned reliever Greg Weissert to Triple-A Worcester and called up left-hander Joely Rodríguez from the WooSox. Additionally, James Paxton has been moved to the 60-day injured list, likely ending his season.

Weissert, who pitched a scoreless 2/3 of an inning on Wednesday against the Houston Astros, had a 4.10 ERA over 48 1/3 innings this season.

Rodríguez, who was initially on the Opening Day roster before being designated for assignment in April, has posted a 1.88 ERA in 14 1/3 innings at Triple-A Worcester. He has limited opponents to a .157 batting average and recorded 13 strikeouts.

The Red Sox acquired Paxton in a trade before the MLB trade deadline. During his brief stint with Boston, he made three starts, posting a 4.09 ERA over 11 innings with nine strikeouts. Earlier this month, he was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a calf strain and will enter free agency after this season.

Boston kicks off a three-game series against the Diamondbacks on Friday, with the first pitch set for 7:10 p.m. ET. Full coverage will be available on NESN, starting with the pregame show at 5:30 p.m.
