The veteran join Tampa Bay Buccaneers in April. The Buccaneers have now released the veteran edge rusher, roughly five months after his initial signing. Gregory has been on the reserve/did not report list since training camp began in July.
Gregory was set to become the fourth NFL team of his career. He previously played six seasons with Dallas, a season and a half with Denver, and was traded to San Francisco last year. Over his career, he has appeared in 72 regular season games with 18 starts, accumulating 117 tackles and 22.0 sacks. In 2023, while with the Broncos and 49ers, he recorded 20 tackles and 3.5 sacks.
With Gregory’s departure, the Buccaneers now have nine outside linebackers on their 91-man preseason roster: Yaya Diaby, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, Chris Braswell, Anthony Nelson, Markees Watts, Jose Ramirez, Daniel Grzesiak, Shaun Peterson, and Jay Person. Last year, the team kept six outside linebackers after trimming the roster to 53 for the regular season. They must make the same roster cut by next Tuesday.
Diaby and Tryon-Shoyinka have been dealing with ankle and neck injuries, respectively, which have sidelined them for most of August. However, both are expected to be ready for the regular season. In the recent game against Jacksonville, Ramirez and Watts combined for four of the Buccaneers’ five sacks.
