Just In: Mets Superstar Expected To Have ‘Fascinating’ Market

The New York Mets will face a significant decision this offseason.

Speculation about the future of first baseman Pete Alonso has been ongoing for the past year. At times, it seemed likely he would be traded, while at other moments, it appeared a long-term contract might be possible.

Despite numerous trade rumors leading up to the deadline, New York chose to keep Alonso in hopes of making a playoff push. Now, they’ll enter negotiations to determine if a new deal can be reached after the season.

The outcome remains uncertain, but according to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, Alonso’s free-agent market is expected to be “fascinating.”

“Pete Alonso has averaged over 40 home runs per season throughout his six years with the Mets,” Bowden noted. “He’s one of only three position-player free agents under 30 who have hit 25 or more home runs this season (the others are Juan Soto and Anthony Santander). Alonso has also made significant improvements in his defensive play at first base. He values being a Met, but his exceptional power means his free-agent market will be highly intriguing.”

Alonso’s departure would be a huge blow to New York, and the Mets will face stiff competition for his services. As one of the top free agents available, Bowden has ranked him at No. 4. We won’t have to wait long to see how this situation unfolds.
