Blockbuster Trade Proposal Sends Top superstar to Dodgers in 4-Players Swap

Starting pitcher Garrett Crochet of the Chicago White Sox has been a prominent figure in this season’s MLB trade talks, a trend likely to intensify with the July 30 trade deadline approaching. The Los Angeles Dodgers, in particular, are speculated to be interested in acquiring the hard-throwing left-hander.

During a recent Bleacher Report live stream, Borna Nazari from Hog Watch Media proposed a trade scenario that would see Crochet moving to Los Angeles. According to the proposal:

– Dodgers would receive Garrett Crochet, a left-handed pitcher.
– White Sox would receive outfielders Josue De Paula and Zyhir Hope, along with left-handed pitcher Justin Wrobleski.

Heading into 2024, the Dodgers possess the eighth-ranked farm system in MLB, as per MLB.com. De Paula (ranked second), Hope (ranked 20th), and Wrobleski (ranked 14th) are all valued prospects within their organization.

De Paula (High-A) and Hope (Single-A) are considered to be a few years away from reaching the major leagues. However, Wrobleski has shown promise this season, boasting a 3.23 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 68 strikeouts across 78 innings between Double-A and Triple-A. He recently made his MLB debut on July 7, pitching five innings against the Milwaukee Brewers.

If the Dodgers manage to acquire Crochet before the deadline, it would bolster their pitching staff significantly. Currently, their rotation includes young pitchers like Wrobleski, Tyler Glasnow, James Paxton, Bobby Miller, Gavin Stone, and Landon Knack. Wrobleski, Stone, and Knack are rookies who have been thrust into starting roles due to injuries. Both Dustin May and Clayton Kershaw are dealing with injury setbacks, while the return timelines for Walker Buehler and Yoshinobu Yamamoto remain uncertain.

Crochet, aged 25, is earning $800,000 this season and remains under team control through 2026. He has already set a career-high in innings pitched this season (105.1), compiling a 6-6 record with a 3.08 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 146 strikeouts, leading the American League in strikeouts.

In addition to his starting prowess, Crochet has experience as a reliever, offering the Dodgers flexibility in managing his workload as other pitchers return from injury.

The Dodgers, known for their aggressive approach, made significant roster investments last winter and are expected to remain active at the trade deadline. Former MLB general manager Jim Bowden predicts they will add a starting pitcher, reliever, and outfielder by July 30. While Crochet is a prime target, should negotiations falter, the Dodgers are likely prepared with alternative plans to strengthen their roster for the stretch run.
