The Oklahoma Sooners continue to build momentum in the 2027 recruiting class. Ranked No. 4 nationally by Rivals, Oklahoma recently strengthened its class with commitments from defensive backs Trenton Blaylock and Bode Sparrow. As June comes to a close, the Sooners are also gaining traction with another talented defensive prospect, Jaiden Fields of Hutto, Texas.
Oklahoma’s chances of landing Fields received another boost this week. Rivals national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman logged a prediction in favor of the Sooners on Sunday, and SoonerScoop.com’s Josh McCuistion followed with the same outlook on Monday, signaling growing confidence that Fields could ultimately choose Oklahoma.
Fields, who attends Hutto High School in the Austin-Round Rock area, has established himself as one of the state’s most versatile athletes. He excels on both sides of the ball, making an impact as a wide receiver and a safety, showcasing the playmaking ability that has attracted attention from major college programs.
When you turn on the highlights, Fields’ athleticism and speed jump off the screen. The Sooners are recruiting him to play safety, where his natural ball skills and understanding of spacing make him a natural free safety. He displays great play recognition and uses good angles in coverage and in run defense. He’s a physical, wrap-up tackler, displaying good technique and patience in his run responsibilities. In coverage, he has a good feel for zone, staying active to disrupt the passing concept.

Fields displays breakaway speed at wide receiver, which gives him the opportunity to stay with the speedy wide receivers he’ll face in coverage at the collegiate level.
Fields has received 15 Power Four offers, and the Sooners appear to be contending with Stanford, Texas A&M, SMU, and TCU for his services.
The Sooners are in great shape at the safety position, but beyond Peyton Bowen, they’re young and inexperienced. There’s a lot of talent, but if Fields committed and signed with the Sooners he’d have a chance to compete with a role in Brent Venables secondary.
