BREAKING: Atlanta Braves cut ties with talented right-hander

The Atlanta Braves have once again moved on from a veteran starter, designating right-hander  for assignment on Friday. It marks the fourth time since last August that Carrasco has been DFA’d. In a corresponding roster move, Atlanta recalled right-hander Anthony Molina from Triple-A.

Veteran right-hander 39, has cleared waivers each of the last three times the Braves designated him for assignment, ultimately returning to the organization on minor league deals after each move.

According to Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors, Atlanta now has five days to either trade Carrasco, place him on waivers, or release him outright. Given the club’s previous handling of the veteran pitcher, a trade appears unlikely. Instead, the most probable outcome is that Carrasco clears waivers once again, becomes a free agent, and then re-signs with the Braves on another minor league contract.

Braves DFAs Carlos Carrasco once again

In 2026, Carrasco has appeared in four games out of Atlanta’s bullpen, posting solid numbers. Across 7.1 innings, he has surrendered just two earned runs while recording four strikeouts and issuing no walks.

With an average fastball velocity of 91.3 mph, he has thrown his changeup 31% of the time in 2026.

From 2009-20, Carrasco was a reliable piece of the Cleveland Guardians’ rotation, making 25 or more starts four consecutive seasons from 2015-18.

He was one of the players traded from the Guardians to the New York Mets in the Francisco Lindor deal in 2021.
