MAJOR BREAKING: Duke Blue Devils Abruptly Lose Potential Star Guard To Transfer Portal

Darren Harris is set to enter the transfer portal after completing two seasons at Duke, marking a new chapter in his college basketball journey as he looks for a fresh opportunity and a larger role elsewhere.

A former four-star recruit out of Fairfax, Virginia, Harris arrived at Duke with solid expectations as a versatile small forward/guard. However, he was unable to carve out a consistent role in the Blue Devils’ rotation during his time with the program. Throughout the 2025–26 season, he averaged 9.7 minutes per game, putting up 3.3 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per contest. While those numbers reflect limited playing time, they also highlight the challenge he faced in breaking into a deep and competitive lineup under head coach Jon Scheyer.

During his sophomore season, Harris did see a temporary increase in minutes when teammate Caleb Foster was sidelined due to injury. That stretch gave him an opportunity to contribute more משמעותfully and gain valuable in-game experience. However, once Foster returned in time for the NCAA Tournament, Harris’ role once again diminished. Over Duke’s final three games of the season, he played a combined total of just nine minutes, underscoring his limited involvement during the most critical part of the schedule.

With the transfer portal opening on Tuesday, Harris became the first Duke player to announce his intention to enter, signaling what could be the beginning of roster changes for the program this offseason. His decision reflects a growing trend in college basketball, where players seek new environments that offer increased playing time, development opportunities, and a better fit for their skills.
