Great News: New York Yankees Intensify Interest in Signing World-Class Star as Soto Replacement

The New York Yankees’ postseason strategy is largely dependent on whether they can acquire Juan Soto.

If the Yankees are able to re-sign Soto, they will have little remaining funds to make other significant moves in free agency. However, if Soto signs with another team, the Yankees can reallocate the money they had planned for him to address other areas of their roster.

A December 2 article by Randy Miller of NJ.com noted, “The Red Sox have emerged as a favorite — possibly THE favorite — to land Yankees free agent Juan Soto.”

Should the Red Sox secure Soto, the Yankees are likely to target a free-agent outfielder to replace him, and a former Red Sox player might be an ideal option.

Miller’s article later mentioned that “Free agents that could entice the Yankees include… Tyler O’Neill.”

O’Neill could be an intriguing acquisition for New York. In the 2024 season, he posted a .241 average, .847 OPS, 31 home runs, and 61 RBIs in 113 games.

Although O’Neill has struggled against the Yankees, hitting just .185 with a .688 OPS, 3 home runs, and 9 RBIs in 14 career games, his overall performance suggests he’s a solid offensive player.

Additionally, O’Neill is regarded as one of the best outfielders in the American League.

The Yankees have a history of signing former Red Sox outfielders, including Johnny Damon, Jacoby Ellsbury, Alex Verdugo, Andrew Benintendi, and even Babe Ruth.

It’s possible that O’Neill will join this list in the future.
