Giants’ Daniel Jones reacts to his latest disastrous performance

Daniel Jones' Week 7 benching leaves his NY Giants future in jeopardy

The New York Giants seem to be stuck at the bottom of the NFC East standings after suffering a 20-17 overtime loss to the struggling Carolina Panthers in Week 10. Quarterback Daniel Jones once again struggled with both his performance and leadership.

New York had tied the game with just 4 seconds left in the fourth quarter thanks to a Graham Gano field goal, earning praise from the fans in Munich, Germany for their late comeback. However, on the very first play of overtime, Tyrone Tracy fumbled, giving Jaguars kicker Eddy Piniero the opportunity to seal the win with a 36-yard field goal.

The Giants were able to move the ball relatively well against the Jaguars, with Daniel Jones completing 22 of 37 passes for 190 yards. Tyrone Tracy had a solid game on the ground, rushing 18 times for 103 yards. Wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson caught 5 passes for 51 yards, while rookie Malik Nabers added 6 receptions for 50 yards.

However, turnovers proved costly for New York. In addition to Tracy’s fumble in overtime, Jones threw two interceptions. The quarterback was visibly frustrated following another disappointing loss for the Giants.

“I’m not sure it’s one thing consistently. I think several things, and we’ve got to every game be dialed in on all those critical things that determine winning and losing,” he said after the game, per the Associated Press. “It’s very frustrating. Came up short, obviously hurt ourselves a lot. Turnovers were a critical factor in the game. Very frustrating.”

Giants had high hopes at the start of the season

New York entered the 2024 season hoping for a rebound after a 6-11 finish in 2023. However, neither head coach Brian Daboll nor quarterback Daniel Jones has been able to find any effective solutions so far this year.

There are growing concerns about the job security of head coach Brian Daboll and the future of Daniel Jones as the Giants’ starting quarterback. If New York decides to make a change under center, it seems likely that backup Drew Lock would be given the opportunity.

The Giants had contemplated a quarterback change during the offseason, with strong rumors circulating before the draft that they might position themselves to select one of the top quarterbacks.

Ultimately, the team opted not to draft a quarterback in 2024, but they may be forced to address that need in the upcoming draft.

Although the Giants were forced to play catch-up throughout the game, the Panthers managed to secure their second consecutive win.

Bryce Young played mistake-free football, completing 15 of 25 passes for 126 yards and 1 touchdown. Running back Chuba Hubbard had a standout performance, rushing 28 times for 153 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Panthers defensive end A’Shawn Robinson was a force, recording 7 tackles, 1 sack, and 2 tackles for loss.

The Giants will have a bye following their return from Germany and will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12. Meanwhile, the Panthers also have a bye in Week 11 and will face the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs at home in Week 12.
