Virginia Tech could be without two vital players this week when it hosts Clemson.
While Clemson fans are concerned about the Tigers’ injured defense, Virginia Tech is also facing significant injury issues heading into this week’s matchup. In fact, two of the Hokies’ most important offensive players may not be available on Saturday. During a media session on Wednesday, Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry stated that starting quarterback and standout running back are both “questionable” for the game against Clemson.
“They’re both questionable right now,” Pry said. “They’re obviously better than they were. Kyron, better than he was last week at this time. Bhayshul, probably yet to be determined.
“Today, we find out a lot. Hopefully, by the end of tomorrow, we feel good about both of those guys.”
In last week’s defeat to Syracuse, Drones was sidelined with a lower-body injury. This season, he has passed for 1,447 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also rushing for 323 yards and 6 additional touchdowns.
In Drones’ absence against Syracuse, backup quarterback Collin Schlee stepped in but was also dealing with injuries of his own. Schlee completed 16 of 24 passes for 206 yards and a touchdown, while adding 54 rushing yards and another touchdown on 19 carries. However, he also had two fumbles, one of which he lost.
Pry indicated that Schlee should be ready to play this week if Drones is unable to go. As for Tuten, who was seen wearing a walking boot earlier this week, his status remains uncertain.
However, during a Monday appearance on the ACC Network, Pry expressed some optimism about having Tuten available this week, even though he also missed the Syracuse game due to an ankle injury.
“So, I think Bhayshul is probable right now,” Pry said. “Again, I won’t know much more until today and tomorrow to feel better about it. He is tough. I think we all know that. It was a decent injury that, obviously, you know, we’re concerned about…If he’s got an opportunity to play, he will.”
Tuten has been a key player for Virginia Tech this season, handling the ball 142 times for 951 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s averaging 118.9 rushing yards per game.
Clemson fans will need to stay updated on both the injury news surrounding Virginia Tech and their own team. Saturday’s game could turn into a battle of attrition, with the healthier team gaining a significant edge.
