Bills’ Jordan Phillips drops ‘acquired taste’ comment after Buffalo move

Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Jordan Phillips

Jordan Phillips had several options after his time with the Dallas Cowboys, but he decided to join the Buffalo Bills for a specific reason. He believes there’s a strong connection between himself and the team, not only in terms of his playing style aligning with the Bills’ defensive approach, but also for other personal reasons.

“For sure, mostly because I’m an acquired taste, and they like my taste (here), you know what I’m saying?,” Phillips responded when he was asked about how he came to be with Buffalo in this particular stint.

Jordan Phillips speaks up on his decision to sign with the Bills

The familiarity Phillips has with the team and its culture made the decision process straightforward for him, so he didn’t need to spend as much time contemplating a new destination, unlike many other players who face uncertainty when leaving a team.

“I had some options, but I definitely wanted to come back here,” Jefferson said on Wednesday in a report from WKBW’s Matthew Bove. “I’m familiar with everybody, there’s a winning culture, they know me and know my skill set, and it seemed like a great fit and opportunity.”

Phillips was with the Bills on two different stints, with his most recent tenure spanning the 2022-23 seasons. During that time, he recorded 35 tackles, four sacks, and 11 QB hits across 26 games.

The decision to re-sign Phillips to the 53-man roster coincided with the Bills also bringing back another familiar face, defensive tackle Quinton Jefferson. Both players have signed one-year contracts.

The Cowboys released Phillips after the NFL Trade Deadline on Tuesday. He had played in the first two games of the 2024 season but was placed on injured reserve on September 18 due to a wrist injury. Phillips was eligible to return on October 23, but the Cowboys chose not to activate him for either Week 8 or Week 9.

He’ll hope to find some upward momentum once again in Buffalo.
