Injury News: Dave Roberts Makes Strategic Decision Ahead of Next Matchup

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without relief pitcher Evan Phillips at the start of the World Series. Phillips, a right-handed reliever, led the team with 18 saves in 61 regular-season appearances and had not allowed a run in his last five postseason outings, totaling 6.2 innings.

However, he reportedly suffered an arm injury during his appearance against the New York Mets in Game 6 of the NLCS, where he felt discomfort after a scoreless inning that included a hit and two walks.

To fill the gap, the Dodgers have added right-handed reliever Brusdar Graterol and left-handed reliever Alex Vesia to their World Series roster, replacing Phillips and rookie Edgardo Henriquez. Graterol, who missed most of the regular season due to injuries, has a 2.69 ERA over 178 games with the Dodgers from 2020-2024 and has only allowed four runs in 21 postseason innings. Vesia, who made three scoreless appearances in the NLDS against the Padres, missed the NLCS due to an intercostal injury but has been cleared to pitch after a successful bullpen session this week. He had a strong regular season, going 5-4 with a 1.76 ERA in 67 appearances.

The Dodgers and New York Yankees submitted their 26-man rosters to Major League Baseball on Friday morning, with Game 1 of the World Series set to begin at 8:08 p.m. ET on Friday night.
