The Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly shifted their focus to acquiring top wide receivers after missing out on a potential deal for Davante Adams. With a clear need to strengthen their receiving corps, the Steelers are exploring various options among the league’s elite talents.
On Tuesday, the New York Jets were finalizing a trade for star wide receiver Davante Adams, marking perhaps the least surprising move of the season.
The wide receiver-needy Pittsburgh Steelers were among the teams interested in Adams, but they must quickly pivot their focus with the trade deadline approaching on November 5.
Here are three wide receivers Pittsburgh might target:
DeAndre Hopkins, Tennessee Titans
The Titans (1-4) recently suffered their fourth loss of the season, signaling a potential rebuild. If they decide to go that route, they may consider trading Hopkins, a three-time first-team All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler. At 32, he’s nearing the end of his career, but the Steelers could still benefit from his experience. In the first six weeks of the season, Hopkins has recorded 14 catches for 175 yards and one touchdown. The Titans wouldn’t be left short on options, as they still have receivers Calvin Ridley, Tyler Boyd, and Treylon Burks on the roster.
Christian Kirk, Jacksonville Jaguars
Similarly, the Jaguars (1-5) have had a tough start to their season, losing their fifth game on Sunday. If Jacksonville decides to make significant changes, Kirk, who is just 27, could be on the trading block. He signed a four-year, $72 million contract in 2022, which has proven to be a good investment. Since joining the Jaguars, he has tallied 165 catches for 2,191 yards and 12 touchdowns. With the team also investing in the position by signing Gabe Davis and drafting Brian Thomas Jr., Kirk could become expendable for the right price—one that Pittsburgh might be willing to pay.
Mike Williams, New York Jets
With the Jets acquiring Adams, they appear ready to compete for a Super Bowl. Some may argue against trading talent due to the risk of injuries, but New York still has receivers Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard. Williams has struggled to connect with quarterback Aaron Rodgers this season, making just 10 catches for 145 yards. After trading what could become a second-round pick for Adams, the Jets might look to recoup some assets. A fresh start could benefit both Williams and the Jets, especially since the Steelers had shown interest in him earlier this offseason. Williams was supposed to visit Pittsburgh in March but signed with New York instead.
However, any potential trade involving Williams may need to wait, as the Steelers are set to host the Jets on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 7.
