What a loss? Cubs confirm another sad news

The Cubs have confirmed another disappointing update, marking a significant loss for the team. The details are still emerging, but fans are feeling the weight of this news.

Cubs and third-base coach Willie Harris part ways - Bleed Cubbie Blue

The Cubs and third-base coach Willie Harris are parting ways, according to Bruce Levine of 670 The Score on X. Levine describes the decision as mutual, with both parties remaining on good terms. He also notes that Harris is open to exploring other coaching opportunities.

Harris, 46, played in the majors from 2001 to 2012, representing teams like the Orioles, White Sox, Red Sox, Braves, Nationals, Mets, and Reds. After retiring from playing, he transitioned into coaching, spending time in the minors before joining the Cubs as their third-base coach for the 2021 season under manager David Ross.

With Craig Counsell taking over as manager for the Cubs in 2024, he inherited Mike Napoli as first-base coach, while Harris remained at third. Recent reports indicated that Napoli and several other coaches would not return, adding to the Cubs’ list of coaching vacancies.

In August, Scott Merkin of MLB.com interviewed Harris regarding the managerial position with the White Sox following the firing of Pedro Grifol, with Grady Sizemore stepping in as interim manager. Harris expressed his interest in leading the White Sox but noted it was uncertain if the feeling was mutual. “I would absolutely love it if they showed interest in me being the leader of this organization, this team,” Harris stated. “But I also understand how it goes. It’s a waiting process. If they call, great, I’ll be ready. I’ll be prepared.”
