The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping their other offensive players will rise to the occasion with running back Isiah Pacheco and wide receiver Rashee Rice out. Monday’s primetime game against the New Orleans Saints marks the first chance for teammates to step up.
Before kickoff, ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared some positive news regarding Rice’s knee injury, which he suffered in Week 4 when quarterback Patrick Mahomes collided with him while attempting to defend an interception return.
Rice may have a “much shorter” recovery time than initially expected, according to Schefter. After consulting with doctors, there’s “a lot of optimism” that Rice’s injury isn’t as serious as first thought.
However, the Super Bowl LVIII champion is still deemed “unlikely” to return this season. The exact recovery timeline will be determined on Tuesday following Rice’s exploratory surgery.
His injury creates a significant gap at the wide receiver position for Kansas City, leading to speculation that the team might pursue a trade with division rival Las Vegas for star wideout Davante Adams, who has recently requested a trade.
