Purdue has secured its first commitment for the 2025 recruiting class, with three-star guard Antione West Jr. from Toledo, Ohio, pledging to coach Matt Painter and the Boilermakers.
West was weighing his options between Purdue and Nebraska before making his decision on Tuesday. He shared with On3.com’s Joe Tipton his reasons for choosing Purdue:
“I picked Purdue because it felt the most like home during my visit. It’s a school I’ve always wanted to attend, and they showed a strong interest in me as well. I believe my skills and size will be a great match for their program, and I can really contribute moving forward.”
Ranked as the No. 162 prospect in the 2025 class and a top-five player from Ohio by 247Sports, West averaged 20.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game last season at Whitmer High School.
“I appreciated the welcoming atmosphere and the culture of their basketball program during my visit,” West told 247Sports. “I was also impressed with their academic offerings, which provide athletes with various opportunities. The overall environment at the school is fantastic; they want me to be myself and to play freely.”
After receiving multiple offers, West was considering Ohio State, Dayton, Nebraska, and Purdue. Visits to West Lafayette and Lincoln helped him finalize his choice between the Boilermakers and Cornhuskers.
Securing West is a strong start for Painter’s 2025 class, and it will be interesting to see if Purdue can attract more prospects in the weeks ahead.
