Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson exited the game twice within four plays during the first quarter against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
The second-year player sustained two significant hits—one to his hip that caused a fumble and another to his head—while executing designed runs. After the second hit, he went to the locker room with a hip injury.
Team officials later stated that his return was questionable. Richardson returned to the sideline early in the second quarter but did not go back into the game.
In his absence, Joe Flacco stepped in and threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Josh Downs, putting the Colts ahead 14-0 with 2:34 remaining in the first quarter.
Richardson has faced multiple injuries since being drafted fourth overall in 2023. As a rookie, he only played in four games, suffering a season-ending shoulder injury and finishing just one of those games.
