DeBoer appeared on “The Triple Option” podcast, discussing his upcoming SEC debut as head coach of the Crimson Tide against the Georgia Bulldogs, currently ranked second in the AP Top 25. He emphasized the significance of the rivalry, even if it hasn’t existed for as long as others in college football. “Rivalries develop for various reasons,” DeBoer noted. “You have in-state rivalries and those driven by high stakes. This game has historically influenced national and conference championships, making it significant.”

For Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart, the matchup will be different, as he’ll be facing DeBoer instead of former Alabama coach Nick Saban. The last three encounters between the teams have involved two conference championships and a national title, highlighting the success of both programs. “It’s a rivalry, if you will, because there’s so much on the line,” DeBoer added.
