The New York Yankees have lost another reliever to injury, pitcher has been placed on the 15-day injured list. He left Thursday’s game against the Seattle Mariners due to tightness in his pectoral muscle, having already dealt with soreness before the game. The team has confirmed that Cousins is suffering from a right pec strain. In response, they have recalled right-hander Clayton Beeter from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Cousins, in his first season with the Yankees, has been one of their standout relievers, pitching 38 innings with 53 strikeouts and a 2.37 ERA. His WHIP of 1.053 ranks second among Yankees relievers, trailing only Luke Weaver (minimum 30 innings pitched).
Clayton Beeter, who will replace Cousins, is set for his second stint in the majors this year. His first appearance was on March 28 against the Houston Astros, where he pitched a three-pitch inning. In 10 outings for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, including seven starts, the 25-year-old Beeter has a 3-1 record with a 2.25 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 36 innings.
The Yankees will feel Cousins’ absence, as manager Aaron Boone has utilized him in a setup role for new closer Weaver. This likely means Clay Holmes will take on more responsibility in the 7th and 8th innings. The hope is that Cousins will recover in time for the postseason, where his presence will be crucial.
Looking ahead, the Yankees have completed their west coast trip and return home for an important series against the Baltimore Orioles. Following Sunday’s victory over the Oakland Athletics, New York can clinch the AL East with just one more win.
