Thursday night proved disastrous for the Miami Dolphins. The team struggled from the start, falling behind by two touchdowns at halftime. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw his third interception of the game, which the Buffalo Bills defense returned for a touchdown.
Things took a turn for the worse when Tagovailoa suffered a concerning concussion on the following drive, reminding fans of his troubling series of head injuries from 2022. He is now sidelined indefinitely, and while head coach Mike McDaniel and the front office are considering what’s best for his health—potentially shutting him down for the season—Tagovailoa may still be eager to play.
The possibility of Tagovailoa not returning this season is real given his injury history. If that’s the case, Skylar Thompson would be the next in line as the starter, though many fans doubt his ability to secure consistent wins.
Could the Dolphins look to trade for Jimmy Garoppolo? Former Dolphins and current free agents like Ryan Tannehill and Blaine Gabbert have been mentioned, but McDaniel might push for a trade involving Garoppolo. McDaniel and Garoppolo have a history together from their time with the San Francisco 49ers from 2017 to 2021, where McDaniel was the offensive coordinator during their final season.
Garoppolo may not have been exceptional with the Niners, but he would be a step up from Thompson. The potential trade would involve the Los Angeles Rams, where Garoppolo currently plays, and the Rams are unlikely to part with him without significant compensation.
