What’s Next for Jamaree Bouyea?

At this point, the specific reasons behind San Antonio’s decision to waive Bouyea are not entirely clear. It might be related to needing roster flexibility or the team’s preference to allocate their final two-way spot to another player. Nevertheless, Bouyea is a talented player who is likely to find a place with another team before the start of the next season. There is also a chance he could rejoin the Spurs to play with their G League affiliate.

Ultimately, it was always a long shot for Bouyea to secure a consistent role with the Spurs next season. Despite his talent, there are several guards ahead of him on the depth chart. Key players include future Hall of Famer Chris Paul and rookie Stephon Castle, both of whom are expected to play significant roles. The Spurs also signed Malachi Flynn this offseason and still have Tre Jones and Blake Wesley on the roster.

Where the Spurs Go From Here After Waiving Jamaree Bouyea

While it’s unlikely the Spurs will contend for the playoffs next year, they’re still expected to be one of the most exciting teams to watch. This summer, along with signing Chris Paul and drafting Stephon Castle, the Spurs also brought in former champion Harrison Barnes. Additionally, the basketball world will be closely following the development of reigning Rookie of the Year, Victor Wembanyama.

San Antonio remains a considerable distance from true contention, but there is plenty of potential on the team. Over the past two seasons, the Spurs have posted a 22-60 record and haven’t had a winning season since 2018-19. As Gregg Popovich embarks on his 29th season as head coach, the Spurs are set to be one of the most intriguing teams to watch next season.
