It’s well known that the Philadelphia Phillies have struggled since the All-Star break, but they appear to be overcoming those difficulties, with an NL East division title nearly within reach.
What hasn’t been highlighted enough is that the Phillies have managed to find success recently despite missing some of their key players.
One such player, Alec Bohm, had to leave a game early after injuring his hand and wrist on a swing. Initially expected to be out only a few days, Bohm’s inability to swing comfortably led to his placement on the 10-day IL on September 6.
However, the All-Star third baseman has now returned to the team.
Bohm is back in the lineup, batting fifth behind Nick Castellanos and ahead of J.T. Realmuto. His return is expected to bolster the offense, which has had impressive games but has also been inconsistent.
Fortunately, key contributions have come from various players, especially Kody Clemens and Cal Stevenson, who stepped up in the absence of injured teammates.
Bohm’s return is crucial at this point in the season. Not only does it boost the team’s chances as they face the New York Mets in the series finale—where a victory would bring them closer to clinching the NL East—but it also provides him with valuable game reps before the playoffs start.
